MATTIE WAITS FOR BLUE: A CHARMS FOR AN EASY LIFE necklace evokes the glorious sea when bathed in sunset’s golden light. The large brushed gold hoop—think circle of life—is the charm bearer: African turquoise, black agate, gold-filled beads, and four gold-dipped shells: mother of pearl, jade turbo, and luhuanus. Matty Waits for Blue is strung on a black leather cord dipped in honeycomb gold beads. The necklace pairs beautifully with the Mattie Waits for Blue earrings and bracelet. Coco’s novel Remembering Blue is the inspiration for this piece. For those of you who know the book, remember this: Nick Blue was never found . . . perhaps he’s still out there, waiting for his love to find him.

To this day, I do not understand Lethe’s complexities as fully as Nick did and probably never will. He had the gift. He was able to escape that division between man and nature. He once said to me, “I know what the Bible meant when it said God cast Adam and Eve out of paradise. God didn’t send them anywhere; he took something away. Their animal eyes, all that under the surface stuff that lets us know we’re part and parcel with the beasts and fish and snakes. He turns us into fools in our own land.” – Connie May Fowler, Remembering Blue
